Sony Ericsson W995a

SE was kind enough to send me a W995a to play with for a bit so I made a little video. Expect a full review shortly. NOTE: This is my first video using Movie Maker so its not the highest quality stuff.

Q2 2009 results = bad

Sony Ericsson has posted the Q2 2009 financial results. While they are bad with a net income of negative 213 million euro, they aren't as bad as the last quarters -293 million euro. SE is continuing a cost savings program it started in mid 2008 that is to finish in mid 2010 that will save €880 million in operating expenses. The W995 is doing well worldwide and with the release of Aino, Satio, and Yari by early Q4, SE should have a better Q3 and Q4.

Official: C905a and W518a coming to AT&T July 19

AT&T has official announced the SE C905a and W518a. Both feature 3G and GPS. The C905a will not have WiFi like the regular C905 which is a major bummer for some. Also things like Microsoft Exchange support has been removed from their unbranded counterparts. Both will come out on July 19th for a respectable cost of $179.99 for the C905a and $49.99 for the W518a.

XPERIA X2 video

Here is a poor quality XPERIA X2 video.

New Rachael and Kiki pics and video

the_laser from Esato has released some more pics of the two upcoming SE phones, Rachael and Kiki. Rachael looks to be running a SE customized Android UI in the video with lots of nice graphics. Kiki could be and XPERIA phone as well. These phones along with the X2 might be announced in September.

Bao leaked

Weirdwilli on Esato has posted pics of Bao, which is a clamshell design that is probably the successor to the likes of the Z750 and Z780. We see a nicely designed flip phone with a flat keypad with diamond shaped number pad. Very curvy and looks like a jewel when closed. The bottom is thicker then usually though. I wonder why?

Kiki and Rachael renders

Sony Ericsson ”Rachael” is the codename of the Swedes' first Android-based mobile phone, that is expected to be announced later this year. It will be part of Sony Ericsson's series of XPERIA products. We've got our hands on internal documents about the phone, that seems to have the potential to be a sales success.

The phone is based on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform, that enables processor speeds up to 1 GHz, and HSPA-speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. This platform will also sport great 3D graphics capabilities.

The phone's built-in camera is an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus. There's also a 3.5 mm jack connector as well as a mini-USB connector at the top of the phone. The touch screen seems to be quite large, but as of yet there is no specific information about its size.

Sony Ericsson calls it a ”purity product”, and its codename is ”Kiki”. The surface is influenced by a unusual structure and only a few keys; the design is nothing like we've previously seen from Sony Ericsson.

The display seems to be made of glass, and the screen image appears to be projected onto this glass surface. It makes it possible to create a sort of depth in the screen image, and it looks rather exciting. We're very much looking forward to seeing more of this.

We currently don't have any specific information about the features of this phone, and the design doesn't offer a lot of hints. There isn't any visible camera on the phone, and the screen icons seem to prove that it isn't a particularly advanced mobile phone.

We'll naturally follow up on the case, when more information about the phone is available.

W350 successor leaked

PeterKay over at Esato has released pics of what appears to be a W350 successor. The camera is now 3.2MP (probably fixed focus), screen appears larger (probably QVGA res too), and the flip appears sturdier. Enjoy the pics
