The next announcement is scheduled for November 6. This will be a Walkman focused event. The W705 Rika and MBS-900 Bluetooth speaker are probably going to be announced for sure. Hopefully we will see some more phones too.....

Sony Ericsson moves to number 3

Sony Ericsson has joined the top 3 world wide mobile phone manufacturers. This is not due to a great quarter by SE, rather worse times at LG and Motorola. SE should solidify being the number 3 manufacturer with a great Q4 thanks to the XPERIA X1, C905, W902, and W595. Anyhow 2009, should see Sony Ericsson getting back to its roots with a great portfolio with less overlap.

Next announcement: Sept 23/24?

Could the next announcement take place in as little as 6 days? According to Mobilecowboys.nl, the next announcement is scheduled for September 23/24 when SE opens up its new Lund, Sweden building. This might not be anything big, but who knows.

Sony Ericsson in September

Sony Ericsson should have an announcement within the first 3 weeks of September. Also several phones should be coming out including the TM506, K330, W302, G700b, J132, T700, W595, W902, and my fav the C905. The XPERIA X1 is slated for October along with the S302 and the game loaded F305 should be coming in November.

Next SE announcement in 2 weeks?

Sony Ericsson to lay off 2,000 jobs

Looks like SE is going to 2,000 people go. This comes in response to the poor Q2 results. SE seems to be in trouble. They had better come out with better higher end products with more innovation of their hey days in order to become a leader in the mobile world again.

Sony Ericsson to axe 2,000 jobs

Sony Ericsson is one of the world's largest makers of mobile phones

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has said it will shed 2,000 jobs worldwide over the coming year to cut costs.

The news came as Sony Ericsson reported an operating loss of 2m euros ($3.1m; £1.59m) for the second quarter, against a profit of 315m euros a year ago.

Sony Ericsson said it was aiming to cut operating costs by £300m a year.

In June, the company had warned its profits would be less than previously forecast as demand for expensive handsets waned.

Sales in the quarter fell by 9.4% to 2.82 bn euros.

A company spokesman said a review of all operations, including those in the UK, would be taken before any decisions were made about where jobs would be cut.

Spending squeeze

The company is a joint venture between electronics firm Sony and telecoms equipment maker Ericsson.

Consumer demand has been hurt by a credit crunch that has prompted banks to withdraw many loans and mortgages.

As a result, many consumers have had less money to spend and have had to cut back on their outgoings.

The slowdown in many of the world's largest economies such as the US, UK and Japan has hit both consumer and corporate spending.

'More agile'

Sony Ericsson has been trying to do more business in emerging markets, as European trade reaches near-saturation levels.

That has meant the sale of more low-end, less costly, phones.

"Our target is to achieve a reduction in operating expenses of 300m euros annually, with the full effect expected to appear within a year," Sony Ericsson chief executive Dick Komiyama said.

"The measures we are taking are aimed at becoming a faster, more agile and more cost efficient organisation that can continue to create innovative products that excite consumers."

Next announcement date

The next announcement date is scheduled for July 22, 2008. We will expect to see at least 2 Walkman phones. The first is the 5MP Patty based off the C902. The next is the newly leaked W595, successor to the W580i.

Also expect to see at least one UIQ phone as well.

Shiho to be announced June 17

m-one over at Esato confirmed that Shiho will be announce June 17. That brings up the list of phones to be announced to 5...

Paris (5MP sliding UIQ smartphone)
Shiho (7+ MP high end cameraphone)
Beibei (3MP mid range UIQ smartphone)
Patty (Walkman version of C902)
C300 (low end phone)

of course nothing is set in stone, but this is the most up to date list.

July 2008 announcement?

The next announcement following the June 17 announcement is rumored to happen within the first 2 weeks of July. Many people are saying that July 7 is the day. Once the June 17 announcement happens, I am sure that a week or so later we will get confirmation of the July announcement. Stayed tuned here for the most up to date information.

Unknown low-end Sony Ericsson candybar leaked

Over at SE4m.com, they have obtained photos of a leaked low end phone. This phone looks most likely to be part of the T series and probably has just a VGA camera with no other features. This phone is just for people that want a mobile to make calls. Should be nice and cheap and perfect for emerging markets like India. Looks like this makes three phones confirmed for June 17 so far: Beibei/G702, Paris, and this unknown phone.

Sony Ericsson June 17 Press Invite in English

Mizzle over at USEB released the English version of the June 17 Press Invite. This time though it has the information of the Singapore Communicasia event instead of Amsterdam. This is turning out to be a bigger invite then first expected...

Sony Ericsson June 17 CONFIRMED!!!

Looks like SE just confirmed the June 17 announcement with this invitation. What can we expect? Paris and G702 Beibei are almost given. Expect at least 2 more phones. Could Shiho be one of those?

May announcements? Part 2

Okay, so nothing materialized on May 6 with Q1 results and the UIQ conferences were both cancelled due to low registration. Next announcement rumor date is Wednesday, May 14. Xell over at Esato has given the following information on Ericsson's Capital Market Day.

On May 14, Ericsson's President and CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg will host Ericsson's Capital Markets Day. The management team will - with the overall theme "broadband everywhere" - present Ericsson’s view on the market trends and business dynamics, the growth opportunities and strategies, and how Ericsson's technology leadership is shaping the future.

Sony Ericsson Release Schedule for 2008

Thanks to SE-World, we now have Sony Ericsson's tentative release schedule for the rest of 2008. Looks like we will have storms of new phones in May and September. Most interesting in this time line is September with 4 unannounced High End phones (Alicia, Ying, An, and most famous Paris). Looks like Nokia N-Series might have a run for its money come this fall. The most anticipated Cybershot Flagship Shiho has a release date of sometime in Q4. It will most likely be released sometime in October/November just like the K850i of 1 year earlier.
