Sony Ericsson moves to number 3

Sony Ericsson has joined the top 3 world wide mobile phone manufacturers. This is not due to a great quarter by SE, rather worse times at LG and Motorola. SE should solidify being the number 3 manufacturer with a great Q4 thanks to the XPERIA X1, C905, W902, and W595. Anyhow 2009, should see Sony Ericsson getting back to its roots with a great portfolio with less overlap.

W64s officially announced

AU KDDI Japan had its Fall/Winter announcement today. One Sony Ericsson phone came out, the W64s. The phone features a 2.7" 240 x 432 screen with 3.2MP auto focus camera.

C905 Themes and Media Menu Speed

C905 vs N96 browser

Using the built in browsers over Wi-Fi, the C905 loads the desktop version BBC UK website much faster then the N96. The autorotation on the C905 looks better too.

Twiggy and Hikaru

Latest info on some 2009 handsets. Twiggy is the W350 successor with QVGA screen, 3.2MP camera, Walkman 3.0 with release date in Q2 2009. Hikaru is what Paris was going to be. 8.1 MP camera with 8GB of internal memory. With UIQ being dead from SE, we will have to see what Hikaru will be running if it does in fact come out.

What to expect in 2009

1. UIQ X labeled touch screen; 8MP; H2 2009

4. Xperia X?; WinMob 7; Q4 2009
5. W9XX, Walkman 4; Q2 2009

According to my info next Xperia will have 5mp. However, that touchscreen UIQX labeled smartphone is very interesting. Also Walkman 4 is coming very soon. In addition, I am glad that W900 form factor will come back. And yes, there will be no P series anymore, acording to my sources. Xperia will represent SE smartphone line: UIQ,WinMob,Android. Maybe there will be 3 or 4 Xperia’s released 2009. I know for sure about 2 of them.

Hikaru project is in status quo. Although they have tasted on TI, and Qualcomm processors but it is not sure if the new UIQ mobile will be Hicaru. Next UIQ is in testing phase and it is showing very good results. Even the interface is very responsive and eye candy they are struggling to put something innovative. Fingerprint lock is not big deal and time will show how effective will be if they agree to implement it. The Xperia device that is testing the new WinMob 7 is running on Qualcomm QSD8250 processor. UIQX device is running on TI OMAP3430. Android testing device has the same processor as G1, well for now.

It is very interesting to see all touchscreen walkman coming. But don't expect it too soon.

Q3 2008 financial results

Q3 results were posted today. Still not very good. They sold more phones then Q2, but less then Q3 2007. Also income was -33 million € compared to -2 million € last quarter. Q4 will likely be a great Quarter with the C905, XPERIA X1, W902, and lot of mid to low end phones.

AU KDDI W64s pics

The Sony Ericsson W64s is set to be announced in November for Japan's AU KDDI. This is a very slick looking, glamorous phone that is more about fashion then technology. As a Japan phone though, it will obviously have a large, hi-res screen.

New 3.2MP Kate information

New information on the new Cybershot codenamed Kate. It will have a 3.2MP Autofocus camera with Duel LED light, Active lens cover, Smile Shutter, Face detection, Photo fix, Auto rotate, and more. W760a officially out on AT&T

The USA Carrier, AT&T has officially released the Sony Ericsson W760a. It is the Walkman slider with 3.2MP fixed focus, GPS, 3G, and 2.2" screen. It will be available in Fancy Red and Intense Black at most retailers, while Radioshack will have those colors plus the exclusive Rocky Silver color. More SE phones for USA martket is always good.

As its announcement gets closer, more information is coming out about Sony Ericsson's next Cybershot phone, Filippa. First it is going to be available in 3 colors, Noble Black, Precious Peach, and Sincere Silver. It includes a 5MP Autofocus camera with Xenon flash, TV Out, Active lens cover, 2.2" Mineral glass display, Face Detection, Best Pic, Photo Fix, 140MB internal memory, and QVGA recording. Look for the announcement very soon with it popping in store shelves soon afterward.

SO907i rendering

Pictures have come out of the upcoming Japanese SO907i. It looks to be in a form factor of the P990i with number pad on front that flips down, but there is no QWERTY like the P990i. It unveils a massive touch screen interface. Looking for announcement in November.

New XPERIA X1 Demo

Sam Oakley from Xperiancers has put up a walkthrough video of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. This is not the final version, but it is very close. Final version should hit shops next week.

New Cybershot phone leaked

A new Cybershot phone has leaked out. This phone is the 5MP previously mentioned here as Kate. Kate is actually a 3.2MP K770i update while this phone is codenamed Filippa. Basically this is an updated C902. Hopefully SE packs in at least a few new features so we are not buying the same phone in a different shell. One difference already is the inclusion of a Xenon Flash. So this is basically an updated K850i in my opinion. GPS is not confirmed, but SE should be smart about that. Today, October 3, Sony Ericsson celebrated its 7th birthday. As a company they have grown and I am sure that the future holds many great devices. The next announcement should be later this month and we should finally see some higher end phones.
